Fast Good - Alberto Alcocer

Fast food à la Ferrán Adriá

c. Padre Damián, 23 (91-343-0655)

Even if the name "Ferrán Adriá" is closely related (because he's supposed to be one of the owners), this is obviously nowhere near a high level restaurant, but an attempt to build a Spanish / healthy version of the fast food joints that came from America in the 70s (Burger King and McD).

If you look at it that way, then you may like this. For this is closer (although not the same) to Vips than to BK. And the food is good, as the name of the place indicates, for this kind of standards.

This branch, within Eurobuilding hotel and close to Bernabéu, has its share of what is increasingly being called "gym mothers", which is good for the sight if you're a father beyond 40. But not so quick, my friends, because there are also some encorbatados (even in a bank holiday in Madrid) and some very gordo guys. And in any case, if gym mothers is what you want to see, you should definitely go to Rubaiyat, which is close to here (but 3x more expensive).

It is close to a Starbucks, and the atmosphere is not very far away from what you should expect in the Coffee bar.

Prices are not bad (30 for the whole family, including two desserts), it has kids menu (chicken breast fries are very nice) and the crema de chocolate con nata cup is addictive.

I sympathize.

Estay

Bar de pintxos

c. Hermosilla, 46 (91-578-0470)

Typical product of the nineties, when the San Sebastian pintxo scene became fashionable in Madrid (just like what had happened before with Mexican restaurants and Irish pubs, to name two conspicuous examples).

As it is placed in a rancio area par excellence, you cannot expect to find Madrid moderns here. Public tends to be inclined to wear tommy hilfiger's purple polos, during the nights. At lunchtime there are plenty of viejos y viejas and plenty of carritos de bebé.

Waiters are (have always been, actually) very bordes (in the darkest tradition of the borde branch of madrid's waiters -there are other, much nicer branches). And food, supposedly inspired in the creative bars that fill Donosti, is clearly poorer than there, and clearly more expensive.

In the summer we can also see several guiris.

In summary, it used to be a trendy place when they opened, but it does not seem to be so anymore. And it is increasingly getting a rancio flavor. So beware.
